Time for another entry in Friday Fictioneers challenge, courtesy of Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. If you want to give it a try, check the info on her blog. 100 words more or less, inspired by a photo, here we go….

The last time anyone saw Mrs.Trapattoni, the leafs were turning a golden brown shade and the smell of pumpkin pies filled every corner of our little town square. Rumor has it, she met someone online, a youngster from Bulgaria.
I saw her as she sneaked back to her apartment on a cold January morning, with a half-empty plastic bag clutched in her hand. Her shoulders sunk under the weight of shame, as she hid her face from me.
I watch her watching the world from her self-imposed prison. One of these days I’ll fix the staircase. It is spring, after all.
I watched some horrible reality show on TLC over the weekend, marrying for a green card. A 40something lady and a 20something youngster from Morocco or Tunis…it was so sad to watch them ring-shopping, she was so happy picking rings, until he said he can spend 100$ for both rings. It was obvious she was desperately looking for love and he was looking for something else. The saddest part is nobody is to blame.
Some definitely needs to fix her staircase for her. Nicely done Lore. I was intrigued by your use of ‘leafs’ and not ‘leaves’ and having googled it, will need to think about that.
Snow,
Of course we should keep reaching out to others and helping. I didn’t mean to sound so pessimistic. I’m by nature a helper and a healer. 🙂

How sad, she has been trapped in that apartment all winter. One commenter asked if she was catfished and I’m afraid I have never heard that term. That’s a new one on me! I believe I saw the same show you were referring to. They ended up getting married but I don’t think they ended up staying married. Which makes me wonder if they got married maybe it is because TLC paid them a certain amount of money for allowing them to film the show (if they got married).
I think most of the shows of that kind are rulled by who pays what to whom. It was sad to watch it, people used and abused for the sake of entertainment.
I had to check it out, too. 🙂 When someone has a fake online profile and lures you into a “romantic” relationship that usually ends with your empty wallet. Modern times with modern traps…like life isn’t hard enough.
Such a tragic story. You’ve covered a lot of territory in your 100 words, and built a great atmosphere. The viewpoint works really well. I can feel Mrs Trapattoni’s pain.
Going down some sad avenues this week with my FF reading.
Today at the very least say hello to that person in your street nobody seems to care about.
Good one – hail Spring changes!
I am so sorry for this late reply, somehow I missed your comment. I agree with you, a smile can do so much, if we could only remember to smile more often. Thank you so much for your kind words.
Broken from deceit and deception. A very sad encounter tearing her to the depths of isolation.
A really, really good take on the photo prompt. Your video/song perfect .. enjoyed it. 😎
No problem … this happens to those of us who write. We need time to get our next post drafted yet we have commitments of responses that take a great deal of time. I totaly understand. Keep those writiing juices flowing and bring us more wonderful stories. 😎
You wove a sad tale and an all too common one, I’m afraid. No one offers courses on how to deal with loneliness and more’s the pity. Very well written.
Sad tale this week, but nicely done.
I have to ask – was she catfished?

Well, I don’t know if it’s easier or harder for us non-English persons. 🙂

Most of life’s prisons are self imposed. I doubt that fixing the stairs would really help her.

I don’t know, I still believe a little help can do miracles. Maybe I am just naive, but I refuse to give up. 🙂 Thank you so much for your comment.

Fascinating story with the metaphor of the missing staircase matching up well with the isolation of her life. But what is “catfished?”

It sounds like her tryst with the Bulgarian lad didn’t work out 😦
I wonder if she’ll leave her house even if the stairs are fixed?

I don’t think she is the one to stay put forever. Tnx for stopping by.

Very sad. Those prejudiced towns people don’t deserve her company. She should move elsewhere… Nice of the watcher to fix her stairs.

Dear Loré,
The self-imposed prisons are the worst. Nicely done.

Like what has been written above, self imposed prisons are often the most tricky to break free from.

It is so strange, because they should be the easiest to break free from. Thank you.

Such a haunting story this week, Loré. A lifetime in 100 words.
And let me tell you, that song is VERY special to me… always sang it to my nieces and nephews. No one sings it quite like Cesaria!
