New Beginnings And Second Chances

Time for another entry in Friday Fictioneers challenge, courtesy of Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. If you want to give it a try, check the info on her blog. 100 words more or less, inspired by a photo, here we go….

The last time anyone saw Mrs.Trapattoni, the leafs were turning a golden brown shade and the smell of pumpkin pies filled every corner of our little town square. Rumor has it, she met someone online, a youngster from Bulgaria.

I saw her as she sneaked back to her apartment on a cold January morning, with a  half-empty plastic bag clutched in her hand. Her shoulders sunk under the weight of shame, as she hid her face from me.

I watch her watching the world from her self-imposed prison. One of these days I’ll fix the staircase. It is spring, after all.

    • I watched some horrible reality show on TLC over the weekend, marrying for a green card. A 40something lady and a 20something youngster from Morocco or Tunis…it was so sad to watch them ring-shopping, she was so happy picking rings, until he said he can spend 100$ for both rings. It was obvious she was desperately looking for love and he was looking for something else. The saddest part is nobody is to blame.

  1. Some definitely needs to fix her staircase for her. Nicely done Lore. I was intrigued by your use of ‘leafs’ and not ‘leaves’ and having googled it, will need to think about that.

  2. How sad, she has been trapped in that apartment all winter. One commenter asked if she was catfished and I’m afraid I have never heard that term. That’s a new one on me! I believe I saw the same show you were referring to. They ended up getting married but I don’t think they ended up staying married. Which makes me wonder if they got married maybe it is because TLC paid them a certain amount of money for allowing them to film the show (if they got married).

Very sad. Those prejudiced towns people don’t deserve her company. She should move elsewhere… Nice of the watcher to fix her stairs.
