Time for another entry in Friday Fictioneers challenge, courtesy of Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. If you want to give it a try, check the info on her blog. 100 words more or less, inspired by a photo, here we go….

What do you see?
I see giraffes running.
There are no giraffes, my love. Only metal giants clouding the horizon.
What do you hear?
I hear whales waltzing in the deep.
There are no whales, darling. Only metal shadows dancing their deadly minuet.
What do you dream?
I dream of you and me…sailing away.
There is no you and me…Only monsters left to roam the earth.
What do you want?
For you to hold me…and find the courage to let me go.
There is no you…there is only an ocean of sadness and I barely dare to stand on its shores.
What a gorgeously written, melancholy piece. A real feeling of longing, of being out of step with each other and the world. We all write such different stories based on the same photograph – it never ceases to delight me 🙂
Wow… I stumbled upon your site and this is the first thing I read accompanied by the music by Philip Glass. My favourite companion in dark hours. It resonates big time. Beautifully written…
How beautiful, how sad. What sumptuous wordcraft

Very beautiful, and goes so perfectly with this piece of music. There’s something cinematic about the writing.

I always imagine the scene as it would play out on a screen. Hence the music to my stories. Thank you, Claire.

This is very well written, it almost reads like a dialogue between a hypnotist and his unfortunate victim.
Brilliant.

Poignant and evocative – the disembodied voices build a feeling of loss and longing and hopelessness. Beautifully done.
