March #One Four Challenge – Week 2

Last Monday I said I was thisclose to skip March and this Monday I think I should have done just that. I had no inspiration for this week, stuck in a dead alley. I was on the fence about this image and now I am sure I picked the wrong one.

Ben gave me an idea last week, to try perspective correction straightening the building. I tried that in Gimp, didn’t like it. Another thing he suggested was turning it black and white and using a faux red filter to turn the sky black. I tried that, too. Except, I had no idea what a “faux red filter” was and where to find it.  😛  So, I used color correction with Bluegrad filter and ended up with this.

MarchOneFourWeek2I wanted to accentuate the water droplets, so I sharpened the image. That in turn made sky look awful. So, I partially softened the image, to mask the noise, thus bringing the attention back to the water.

I don’t know. It is a love-hate relationship. I kept going away and coming back for days, not knowing in which direction to go. Just couldn’t make myself sit in front of the monitor, especially since the sun finally decided to grace us with its presence. I know it’s me, I am the problem, not the image.

I am already depressed about the next week, because I always try to offer something original and this image just drives me crazy. Well, no point in driving myself crazy in advance, there’ll be enough time to do it on Monday. In the mean time, you can check Week 2 from other participants by visiting Robyn’s blog Captivate Me or checking the tag “onefourchallenge” in your WP Reader.

  1. Lore it doesn’t matter if it works or not so much as trying things out and learning and in doing that we are learning also, that’s the biggest plus and you are already a winner 🙂

  2. Oh I hear you, I had a week like that too. It is fine if it doesn’t all come together! I do think there is something really lovely about the water and fountain, you made it look very soft yet clear, I like it. You will find another way this week, good on you for posting even though you weren’t happy.

  3. Interesting effect, Loré. The water looks frozen in mid air… I can’t take my eyes of it! It’s fun to experiment and learn… Don’t stress about the end result – you know what they say: the journey is often more important than the destination!

I liked it, its a similar effect to the midnight preset in Nik Colour efex and I like what you did with adding more texture to the water too.

  5. I love the water – it really becomes the center of attention in this week’s edit. Well done for persevering even when you weren’t happy with it. I hope you have a better time next week. 🙂
