Time for another entry in Friday Fictioneers challenge, courtesy of Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. If you want to give it a try, check the info on her blog. 100 words more or less, inspired by a photo, here we go….

With every sunrise it got harder to remember the exact moment she gave up. Days rolled one after the other, placing another layer of dust on her dreams.
It was no surprise she was not allowed to his funeral. Never welcomed into their ranks, hated from the start for dragging their beloved son through the mud, his family made it clear they were not to mix.
Watching from the window as they carried his casket from the train to the hearse, the fog over her soul lifted.
“We’ll be ok.” She whispered to the baby safely nested in her belly.
Loré, it’s so good to be reading your work again! I apologize for my vanishing acts, of late. There is such a permeable sense of sadness throughout this piece. The first paragraph (2 lines) are just gorgeous; I read them several times, for their simple beauty. Love this piece!
Dear Loré,
So much said in so few words. Well layered and well told. The last line is something of a sucker punch. Good job.
Shalom,
Rochelle

Somehow I love a story of a stronger Juliet who manage to find a new strength to go on. You have used the words so very well.

She has a hope his family doesn’t have. I like the way her view changes and the fog lifts from her life.

In the end, she got the most out of all of them.

So sad, but with a little beacon of hope right at the end. I loved the line “placing another layer of dust on her dreams”. Great stuff!
