Time for another entry in Friday Fictioneers challenge, courtesy of Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. If you want to give it a try, check the info on her blog. 100 words more or less, inspired by a photo, here we go….

Who can remember the clouds?
Or the sound of raindrops falling on the water?
I can…
Where are the mountains and rivers of my childhood, greens and blues and yellows of my dreams?
Gone…
How did it come to be this future without a misty sunrise or a golden sunset?
What happened to my silver moon?
Hidden...
Did the stars burn out?
Or does the sun shines too bright?
They are the same…
Why did we forget that we are but a speck of dust in the world of giants?
Wow, Loré! What a terrific piece of prose this is! I’d say this is one of your finest. It speaks on more than one level, which is what you want, really. The vid is beautiful and I didn’t know Scarlett Johansson could sing (I included a video in mine this week, too). She’s terrific.
Its been so hectic last few days, just got around to reply to all the comments. Thank you so much for these kind words. 🙂
I love Scarlett’s voice, such a soothing and calm quality hides in there. Glad to know this little quirk of mine is spreading around, I will be sure to check your story and the video.
Beautifully penned! This is poignant and so true. 😦
Thank you for sharing the video, too. I’m taking this to my sleep. Sweet dreams! (If it’s nighttime on your end)
Hi5! Great minds think alike! Had similar or same thoughts! You will know when you read mine!
Your title intrigued me for its the name of one of my favorite movies!
‘Chariots of fire’ is a great line to go with this prompt. There’s truth in your words, sadly.

Thank you, Sandra. When I saw the image, all I saw was heat and desperation.

Very effective. The question-and-response structure of the story makes the conent all the more impactful. The video you included was also compelling.

Excellent double-edged story which tells its own dystopian tale and serves as a metaphor for life. Great job!
