Echoes (Revisited)

Time for another entry in Friday Fictioneers challenge, courtesy of Rochelle Wissof-Fields. If you want to give it a try, check the info on her blog. 100 words more or less, inspired by a photo, here we go….

Your last words are echoing through my mind, descending upon my heart, overlapping my troubled soul.

“I love you, baby girl.”

I enter the cemetery, cold fist clenching half a dozen roses, drops of blood falling on a fresh blanket of snow. Calm, composed, frozen…statue in the making, I am fracturing from the inside, my words to you a painful memory.

“Take the next flight.”

Choking on a mouthful of regret, I recall our last goodbye at the departure gate.

“I love you, baby girl.”
“I love you too, Dad.”

Your grave is dark and cold, mirroring my soul.

When I saw todays prompt, I decided to revisit one of my old FF stories. This one was originally written in July 2014, inspired by Rochelle’s photo of an airplane wing. You can read my original story here. I am surrounded by snow, so I feel it fits even more this time around.
