“There’ll be days like this, my mama said.” These first lines: “The perfectly intact mirror reflects all my broken pieces, throwing them back with a deadly velocity. But they just melt into me, pushing out the darkness.” are exquisite, Loré! This entire piece resonated deeply for me. I feel like I’m on the edge of that still spot, figuring out how to go through the door. Loved this! xo

Thank you so much, Dawn. There is so much inside of me, fighting to get out. I don’t know when writing became such a strong force in my life, but it grows stronger every day. Isn’t that something?

A stunning story, with a beautiful ending, reminiscent of Joni Mitchell’s famous lines:
“We are stardust
We are golden
And we’ve got to get ourselves
Back to the gardenWe are stardust
We are golden
And we’ve got to get ourselves
Back to the garden.”
And these lines of yours are perfect:
“The doors were never closed, I just lacked the courage to step through.
