Stardust

The perfectly intact mirror reflects all my broken pieces, throwing them back with a deadly velocity. But they just melt into me, pushing out the darkness.

Chasing my own shadows for years, I am standing still at last. It took forever,  but I know it now…the doors were never closed, I just lacked the courage to step through.

Looking at my reflection, I see the stars in my eyes.

Because I don’t measure the pain with my tears. I conquer it with my smiles.

I am made of stardust.

Just a little bit of musing today…Mama said there’d be days like this.

  1. “There’ll be days like this, my mama said.” These first lines: “The perfectly intact mirror reflects all my broken pieces, throwing them back with a deadly velocity. But they just melt into me, pushing out the darkness.” are exquisite, Loré! This entire piece resonated deeply for me. I feel like I’m on the edge of that still spot, figuring out how to go through the door. Loved this! xo

  2. A stunning story, with a beautiful ending, reminiscent of Joni Mitchell’s famous lines:
    “We are stardust
    We are golden
And we’ve got to get ourselves
Back to the gardenWe are stardust
    We are golden
And we’ve got to get ourselves
    Back to the garden.”

And these lines of yours are perfect:
“The doors were never closed, I just lacked the courage to step through.
