Thousand Ways To Fall

Time for another entry in Friday Fictioneers challenge, courtesy of Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. If you want to give it a try, check the info on her blog. 100 words more or less, inspired by a photo, here we go….

I can be brave
if someone holds
my trembling hand

I could take
the easy way out
but I’ll make my stand

I can come alive
if someone takes
the silver umbrage away

But most of all
I could be loved
if someone looks my way

I can find in
this darkness
thousand ways to fall

But I can’t find
one that would take me
beyond the wall

I could be fixed
if someone tried
I could be repaired

But most of all
I could be loved
if someone dared

  1. That was beautiful. I rarely write poetry and yet my first thoughts were to write a poem when I saw the photo prompt this week. (I opted for the safety of fiction). I’m glad you chose to use your obvious talents as a poet. It really is a remarkable piece. To say “Well done” doesn’t even begin to cover my appreciation.

    • There is a scene in 2005. Pride and Prejudice, where Elizabeth Bennet stands on a cliff, watching the world enfolding before her, accompanied by this beautiful music. I always felt a special connection with that scene, where you stand alone on the edge and the slightest gush of wind can make you fly or fall. And you are strong and defiant, you will not falter…but you would give anything if someone just stood by you and held your hand.
