Flowing Through

I remember the clouds. Big white cotton balls, rolling across the sky, casting shadows on the landscape of my life.

Waiting for you under those clouds, I sought comfort from the scorching heat that left my palms wet and my throat dry.

But you never showed up…and I kept waiting. On the bus stop without a schedule. On the road that led to nowhere.

Time slipped by and my hair turned another shade of grey. I must have fallen asleep, because when I woke up, I saw you leaving.

Funny how I’ve missed out on my life.

  1. That’s really beautiful. I can imagine a country & western singer grabbing it and convert it to their genre.
Most of us have such regrets, missed those opportunities, woke up just too late. None of this character forming no matter what they say.
Love the clouds. I have in the past been a member of the Cloud Appreciation Society – you get a badge and a certificate – it was a birthday present, I must add.

  2. Beautiful imagery and language. How tragic that she wasted her life waiting. For your narrator it’s another person, but really, how much of our lives do we all waste dreaming, or waiting for a more suitable/less busy time to do something, and before we know it, we’ve missed our chance. Life is short. Grab it.

  3. It’s hard to be watchful continuously. We tire, fall asleep, and miss the boat (or in this case, bus). Beautifully written. I especially like the line about “the clouds casting shadows on the landscape of my life.”
