That’s really beautiful. I can imagine a country & western singer grabbing it and convert it to their genre.
Most of us have such regrets, missed those opportunities, woke up just too late. None of this character forming no matter what they say.
Love the clouds. I have in the past been a member of the Cloud Appreciation Society – you get a badge and a certificate – it was a birthday present, I must add.

Thank you so much, Patrick. The clouds drew me in, there is a dreamy, melancholic quality to them.

Very clever how the highlighted words give another meaning… so sad when life just passes us by, great extended metaphor.

Some thought went into the structure of this one. I like that. A lot. It has the right balance of longing and love, just like life.

Very kind words, indeed. The highlighted parts came as an afterthought, I was lucky they were already there.

Dear Loré,
Lovely piece. I liked the contrast of wet palms and dry throat. Effective and well done.

So sad to miss a life waiting for someone or something to happen. A beautifully penned (or typed?) reminder to live that life!

Lovely! I can understand this sentiment. I loved how you highlighted certain words to make a sentence which echoes the piece as a whole – very clever.

What beautiful phrasing and the pace of this piece is glorious. The stinging pain of loss at the end is wonderful and awful all at once.

Beautiful imagery and language. How tragic that she wasted her life waiting. For your narrator it’s another person, but really, how much of our lives do we all waste dreaming, or waiting for a more suitable/less busy time to do something, and before we know it, we’ve missed our chance. Life is short. Grab it.

Actually, my narrator was talking about her life. I was thinking how most of the time we just sit and wait for life to happen, until finally we end up with so much regret. Thank you so much for such an insightful comment, Margaret. Always a pleasure to read your thoughts.

It’s hard to be watchful continuously. We tire, fall asleep, and miss the boat (or in this case, bus). Beautifully written. I especially like the line about “the clouds casting shadows on the landscape of my life.”
