I may be wrong, Lore, but it sounds to me as though her love has drowned and she wants to join him in death. Very descriptive and poetic. Lovely. — Suzanne

You got it, Suzanne. There were two PoWs when I was writing it, one of a woman who lost her love, the other of a ship who lost her captain. It seems my imagination fights its own battles in my head. Thank you, very kind words, indeed.

Not a big poetry fan, but this piece is intriguing. Will need to come back and read it again. Perhaps view other people’s comments. Have to be honest and admit I struggle to get into poems at times. I like the language but can get lost in the meaning. Cheers!

The beauty of poetry is that you don’t have to grasp for the meaning. I was not a fan of poetry myself, but when I started to write my own, I started to appreciate others work more.

I kept imagining a woman on a “widow’s walk” talking to the sea and the sea answering back. This one caught me in the heart.

What a well used metaphor… throughout, and it works so well with the harbor picture.

A powerful and sad reflection of a sailor’ s window. She is the stuff of ghostly legend in my neck of the woods.

Really? That is interesting, I would love to read some stories about her.

Actually there are several stories of the ghosts of sailor’s widows returning to mourn from the tops of their homes overlooking the sea. Many of the homes around our area were built with small decks atop the roves which the sea wives would walk searching for sign of their husbands ships. These decks became affectionately known as “the widow’s walk”.

I don’t know why it comes so easy to me, when in RL I am positive and happy most of the time. I guess that’s called balance. 🙂 Thank you.
