I just can’t believe how time flies. We are already at the end of February and another One Four Challenge is almost finished. Which means I need to choose a new photo for the month of March. As usual, I have no idea where to go.
At least I knew where I wanted to go for the last edit of this month’s image. I wanted to bring forward what was behind the gates, the bicycles and the plants.
I signed for 30 days Topaz free trial, but since I don’t have PS or LR, I had to access it through IrfanView. It all started promising and I edited the image using Topaz. The result was really great, I used one of the presets and then adjusted colors and exposure. It was all I was looking for. And then it crashed. And crashed. And it had something to do with the fact I own a 100 years old PC.
The amount of swearing and shouting, frustration and disappointment is not really something I should share with you. 🙂 So, I gave up on that idea and went back to my old editing programs. I tried to recreate what I got in Topaz and came close. Honestly, I have no idea what I was doing, it was too many jumps between GIMP, PicMonkey and PixlrExpress.
I suspect many of you will be drawn to my Week 2 edit, but I like this one the most, because I worked hardest on it and I tried to stay as close to the original as I could. I just wish it was a more clear image, but I knew with the amount of cropping, I would lose that.

Nice job! I like this weeks version as well! Week 2 as something but I am more of a fan of the natural looking pictures so I prefer this weeks picture and week 3 🙂
Oh Loré, computer hassles are so frustrating and disheartening. I can see how you would get attached to what you worked so hard for! I do think the beautiful gate lost a bit of clarity in the crop as you expected. I voted for week 3!
I actually like this week’s better than week 2. It might be because I know how an image that you worked hard becomes your favorite. You did a wonderful job at drawing my eye to the bikes in week 4.
I feel your pain on the computer issues and wish you luck with resolving them. I really like this one but have to confess I never noticed the red bicycle until this image!
Great set of images this month Loré. I was very torn between weeks 2 and 3. I really like them both, week 2 is really fun and very striking and week 3 is such a classic, beautifully cropped and framed and works really well in black and white.
I love them all! But, there is something about Week 3 that draws me in. It makes me think there is some great old romantic story behind those gates. Do tell!
I can totally relate with computer frustrations. I swear there are times I want to lay down and cry when simple tasks are made painful due to technology challenges. All I can say is, I am glad you didn’t give up:)
I have no idea if there is some great old romantic story behind those gates, but since we are talking about Italy, I bet there is. 🙂 Glad you liked Week 3, I was worried Week 2 would be an overall favorite, when in fact I put the least amount of effort there.
Guilty as charged, I do like Wk 2 the best, but I certainly appreciate your efforts here with this week. Well done. My second favorite is week 3. I appreciate its nod to the past and I imagine a time when more and more work was put into making things graceful and beautiful.
Computers… Glad you worked to arrive at a similar result. I love this one and Im so glad you focused on the bike and behind the gate.
Love the disco image too… Ba ha ha.. But this one invites me in again – its my favourite.
It really is a wonderful set 😃 Your creativity is amazing!!

Thank you. It needed a lot of work to bring the attention to it.

I hate it when my photo editors crash on me and a few of them do it quite often.
