January #One Four Challenge – Week 3

For my third week in this month’s One Four Challenge, I came up with this little piece. My inspiration for this was a painting from my own collection, 1948. landscape aquarelle. It is the first painting I ever got, I think I was 8 years old when my uncle gave it to me as a Christmas present. Some might find it a strange gift for an 8-year-old, but I guess my uncle knew me well even then.

I was searching for an idea for this week’s edit, doing my usual stuff. There is a pattern in my work, not crystal clear, but it is forming. I always start with cropping and adjusting the angle of the image. Sometimes it is just a slight adjustment, sometimes I tilt it for a bit and sometimes I flip it upside down. I find it important to look at the image from all the different angles, it always gives me a new perspective and a new idea.
The same happened this time. I flipped the image, but it didn’t work immediately, I had to crop it to make it more tight, and I had to tilt the entire image. That gave me the focal point I was looking for, those clovers in the middle that were the sharpest part of the image.

Now, the image had a different composition from the previous versions, but there was still a similar tone and softness. I tried different things, even turning it into a monochrome image, but I wasn’t completely satisfied. Then I used FotoSketcher and tried many effects, until I settled on this one. I tried to make it as soft as possible, just one-two steps removed from photography to painting. Adding the frame was the final touch, to me it looks like the passepartout is adding a 3D feel, drawing us ever closer to it. Or maybe it is just my imagination.

In any case, I would have this on my wall.
