For my third week in this month’s One Four Challenge, I came up with this little piece. My inspiration for this was a painting from my own collection, 1948. landscape aquarelle. It is the first painting I ever got, I think I was 8 years old when my uncle gave it to me as a Christmas present. Some might find it a strange gift for an 8-year-old, but I guess my uncle knew me well even then.
I was searching for an idea for this week’s edit, doing my usual stuff. There is a pattern in my work, not crystal clear, but it is forming. I always start with cropping and adjusting the angle of the image. Sometimes it is just a slight adjustment, sometimes I tilt it for a bit and sometimes I flip it upside down. I find it important to look at the image from all the different angles, it always gives me a new perspective and a new idea.
The same happened this time. I flipped the image, but it didn’t work immediately, I had to crop it to make it more tight, and I had to tilt the entire image. That gave me the focal point I was looking for, those clovers in the middle that were the sharpest part of the image.
Now, the image had a different composition from the previous versions, but there was still a similar tone and softness. I tried different things, even turning it into a monochrome image, but I wasn’t completely satisfied. Then I used FotoSketcher and tried many effects, until I settled on this one. I tried to make it as soft as possible, just one-two steps removed from photography to painting. Adding the frame was the final touch, to me it looks like the passepartout is adding a 3D feel, drawing us ever closer to it. Or maybe it is just my imagination.
In any case, I would have this on my wall.

As I said before, this image is a part of One Four Challenge, if you’d like to find out more about it, just type in your Reader “onefourchallenge” tag and visit Robyn’s blog Captivate Me.
Be sure to check in next week, for my final image and the poll, where you can vote for the version you liked the most.
There is a beautiful softness to this image. It draws you in. I can see why you would enjoy it on your wall, it makes me feel like I wouldn’t be able to walk by this image quickly. I would always be reminded to slow my pace…in thought, walk and play. Beautiful.

Lovely work. It is almost like one is privy to a small portion of this part of nature. Great way to achieve a focal point. Also like the way you use your artistic background to check the image and look at it in new ways by flipping it. I think I’ll try that too, next week. It will be so interesting to see you final week’s version.

I Love the soft tone, and the focus on just a few of the clover leaves. And I keep looking for the 4th leaf for luck, Loré!

Beautiful work! Fabulous! I would have this on my wall too. I really like the selective application of the painting surrounding the sharper leaves. Great work.

This is a lovely edition … like how you pulled out the water color feel … hard to choose which photo is my favorite … I also like week 2 very much and how you delicately colored the leaves … lovely work!

I know what you mean … choosing a snow scene, I’ve done just about all you can do in normal editing … now for next week I’ll have to try and invent something!
