So, here we are. 6 months anniversary of AfterBeforeFriday Forum. As some of you know, we decided to celebrate our little anniversary by editing the same image, that was chosen in a poll, where 11 of our images were presented. The winner was Karen Chengelis Riverfront.
Facing the challenge of editing the same image as the rest of our merry little band, made me think really hard. I guessed there would be some monochrome versions, some cropped versions and versions that would probably make my jaw drop in astonishment. So, I decided to go overboard and play to the fullest.
When I figured out I wanted to turn the image into a painting-look-alike, the biggest thing was to crop it, so I coud get this long, stretched composition mimicking the real canvas. Probably nobody noticed how I removed all the antenas from the roofs and the top of the crane near the bridge, they just didn’t fit in my artsy concept. I converted it into oil painting through FotoSketcher and played some more with colors and exposure.

I must admit my version looks a bit pale compared to what others did, I am tempted to start from the beginning to see if I could do it better. I still like the idea of oil canvas, but would probably play more with colors.

Snow's Fissures and Fractures 
Very nice interpretation. I like the painterly look and I think that approach really helped the sky. The bright open areas of the original sky are no longer distracting but contribute to the overall mood. Thanks for pointing out the removal actions; the absence of the antennas and crane were a necessary step, given the style you were employing. Great job.

Thank you, I was not sure the final result would be on par with other edits, but after coming back to it, I think it looks ok.

I like the painting idea, I guess that is no surprise if you have seen my submission!!! I am embarrassed to admit that I hadn’t noticed the crane until you pointed it out! I like the way your sky turned out, lovely results.

Nice effect, really like the painterly tones. Very impressed that you took the crane out, I tried and gave up! I agree with Robin and Janice, you’ve done a great job with the sky. 🙂

Thank you, Katie. It was not very hard to remove those, because all imperfections (and make no mistake, there were lot of imperfections :D) were covered by the oil painting texture.

I think we are all our own worst enemies. Yours does not pale in comparison at all. I think I said the same thing when I saw every body else’s versions. Such talent out there. I loved the painterly approach and the texture you added. I’ll admit I never noticed the crane or antennas but hope I would have if it were my own photo. Maybe not. The texture really helped the look of the sky- which I definitely had a problem with. And whatever you did with the colors or contrast really made the reflection more apparent. Overall, a great job, Katie!

Apologies for showing up late, but I’m here, I’m here, I’m finally here 🙂 Okay, so you absolutely won the prize for getting rid of the crane. I never even noticed it (nor the antennas)! My husband was actually the one to point it out to me that everyone missed it but you, so way to go. But, beyond that, I love the oil painting effect you chose, and as others said, it certainly helped in dealing with the blown out sky. Great choice of crop too, as it fit the theme of your edits. So very creative, Loré! Thanks so much for coming up with this great idea – it’s been a blast!
