Anybody Home?

When you decide to enter a challenge, no matter if it’s about a story, a poem or a photo, don’t forget the meaning of the word “challenge”. It is not a challenge against other people, other entries…It is a challenge of your own work, of your own point of view. Every week I try to find a different subject for Monochrome Madness Challenge, that one photo that speaks to me in a different voice. It’s not easy, I don’t perceive myself as anything more than the amateur. But…I certanley can try. So I do just that. I try.

I have doubts and regrets about this photo, the biggest one that I didn’t take enough time to take a better shot. But to be honest, I was afraid someone would mistake me for a spy or a snitch, lurking at the entrance of the building, taking photos of the resident’s names.  Didn’t feel I could offer a reasonable explanation, so I hastened. Guess, you live and you learn, so I hope next time I do better.

Leanne Cole, a wonderful photographer from Australia, is hosting a weekly challenge on her blog Leanne Cole PHOTOGRAPHY called Monochrome Madness Challenge, where she features some monochrome photos from other photographers.

Be sure to check other amazing photos on her blog. If you want to participate, head over there and read instructions at the bottom of the post. I would like to recommend her blog to any aspiring amateur photographer, you’ll find many helpful posts and tutorials, but above all she is very open and friendly person.

  1. Although you are, in the end, the photographer, I must say that I really like the results here – sometimes there needs to be an air of mystery in an image – allowing each person to bring something of their own to the picture – the viewer filling in the blanks so to speak. From my personal experience, you may go back and reshoot this, but you’ll never quite get the same spontaneous result you have achieved here.

  2. I LOVE this photo, just as it is! Sometimes we get the best photos when we least expect it. Great submission for MMC! And thanks so much for your kind comment on mine 🙂
