Point of View

I often check other people’s blogs to learn how they see the world. And let me tell you, I am blown away by their skill and imagination. And then I come back to my photos and realize how utterly boring they seem. A flower here, a building there, some of them are even decent, but they all shout to me – you are soooo boring!!!

P.S. This is not my photo, if anyone was delusional enough.

Then there is the fact that I don’t have my own camera, my dear friend gave me her Olympus C7070, but I have no idea what I am doing half the time. Just recently I managed to play around with settings, but am still far away from knowing all the features. I downloaded the manual, so there’s the chance of figuring few things here and there (definitely maybe). For now, I am winging it. And how I’m winging…..like a pro!

Inner Courtyard of Palazzo Sforzesco, Milan, Italy  16.05.2014.

Above is one example of my “ingenious” work. I saw some truly beautiful macro photos on different blogs, mostly of flowers. So, I said to myself – piece of cake.
There I was, in this gorgeous inner courtyard, surrounded by hundreds of tourists, all equipped with some crazy cameras and lenses…and I just can’t focus my camera on this flower. Whatever I do, it stays out of focus. So I look around, trying to think, but it’s too hot and I am already too desperate….I mean, it’s a stupid flower and I can’t get one decent shot with this stupid camera (off course, it’s not my fault).
Then, by accident, I move around and notice how camera zooms on a flower as I come near or step back. I did nothing! It’s doing it all by itself. So, I start jumping around and taking photos, trying to ignore those confused tourists that are wondering what the heck this crazy woman is doing.
By this point, I don’t care! I am a PRO! Made it Ma, top of the world!

(You know these memes of how you see yourself, how other people see you and how you really look. Well, you know what I am talking about.)

What I am trying to say to all of you who look at other people’s photos and think you’ll never be as good as them…Who cares??? Have fun, even if you make other people laugh at you. That’s even better. Just don’t give up. Each day, learn something new. And maybe one day you’ll make that one spectacular shot. And if not, you’ll survive. Trust me.

But please – don’t forget to have fun along the way.

That's-All-Folks
