We are Strangers

There are some photos I keep coming back to, over and over again, like they have an invisible pull on my heart. I remember the moment I took the  photo of the Pulcino della Minerva, a famous Gian Lorenzo Bernini elephant sculpture, a base supporting one of the eleven Egyptian obelisks scattered around Rome…looking at the eyes, wondering what the story would be if the statue could talk. Years later I wrote a poem about those sad eyes. And years later I came back again, to give it another life with monochrome touch.

Look into my eyes…

What do you see?

Is it a sadness for all that has gone by?

Is it a fear of what lies ahead?

Do you even care?

Or am I just a memory tucked away in a corner of your soul?

Do you even know me?

Look into my eyes…

Do you see me?
